Brunching in DC: Cava Mezze

For anyone that lives in a bustling city, you can attest to the wonder of a weekend brunch. For those of you who don’t know, brunch is the perfect combination of a late morning meal that includes breakfast and lunch! Living in DC it is required that you brunch. Within the District you can find multiple brunch locations that will offer a variety of scrumptious foods.  Recently a group of sorority sisters and I went to one of my favorite brunch locations to celebrate my big’s 24th birthday! We ended up at a hot spot restaurant called Cava Mezze. Cava is always crowded and you have to make a reservation for a weekend brunch at least a week in advanced! Cava serves a modern take on traditional Greek recipes. For a set price you can order all the food you want from the menu and drink penny mimosas! The menu has many different options for the brunchers that want to go down the route of classic breakfast foods or for those that want to try something Greek to expand their pallet. Personally, I like to get a mix of both types of foods. The plates Cava serves you are relatively small and are in one serving size. This allows you to not get too full and try many different plates. Some of my favorite dishes are the spicy lamb benedict, French toast, and the crispy pork belly.

The spicy lamb benedict is delicious and if you like a little hot kick in your food I would highly recommend this dish.

The French toast comes with a cream that is divine. It’s a lot thicker then your average whip cream making it unique. If I could I would eat a whole bowl of it!

The crispy pork belly sits on top of a honey sauce giving brunchers the perfect combination of sweet and salty.  Everything is absolutely delicious and you can order the same thing five times if that’s what your stomach desires or one of everything on the menu! That’s the beauty of brunch, all of the options and the un-limitedness! The penny mimosas are also a sweet treat too. For only one penny each you can have a classic orange juice mimosa, grapefruit mimosa, or cider mimosa. Its always fun drinking these sweet drinks and eating until I can’t walk with friends while laughing over memories and singing happy birthday very loudly and off tune!

Cheers!
